Query From Wendy Jo Gertjejanssen email@example.com 96 May 1998
I am writing an encyclopedic entry on sexual slavery among prisoners of war throughout history, but primarily on the twentieth century. I have several sources concerning the Japanese "Comfort Stations," and I have many sources concerning forced prostitution and sexual slavery under Nazi Germany. I have used Gerda Lerner's _Creation of Patriarchy_ for information on the ancient world, although I would like to see more for this time period. Of course, I have also started looking at the rape camps in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
I know that this probably has been a world-wide phenomenon throughout history. The problem is that there hasn't been much documented yet. I was wondering if any of you had citations of studies on sexual slavery (of women or men) among prisoners of war from other time periods (ancient, medieval,or early modern) or countries that I do not have covered. Thank you very much.
