History of Women's Movements Bibliography
Query From Kathryn Taglia firstname.lastname@example.org 30 July 1996
I will be teaching a second year course on the history of women's movements from a cross-cultural perspective. Any suggestions of texts, videos, images, articles, etc that could be used in the course? I have so far selected _Feminism and Nationalism in the Third World_ by Kumari Jayawardena which is a historical study of woman's suffrage and political movements in Asia and the Middle East. I am hoping to find articles, videos, etc. on women's movements in North America, Europe, Latin America or Africa to supplement this text.
I want this course to be more than examination of suffrage movements, so I plan to spend the last three or four weeks (it's a one semester course) looking beyond the suffrage question to other aspects of women's movements (such as the lesbian movement, or women's organizations on the right). Any ideas or suggestions on what to have would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Physical B & W/Monochrome; Sound Length 40:00 min Note [MP4122]
Synopsis: Documentary presents the history of women in the U.S. Using old engravings, photographs, newsreels and other film clips, the film makers show the varied economic, social and cultural experiences of women; how she felt about her sex, race, and class often determined her priorities. (Film, 1974)
Other suggestions: How about including a unit on the history of women and health? ...One of the most interesting aspects is to look at the effect of colonial medicine on gender.
