We thought we'd check and see what you had given us on e-mail for the midterm . . . what you left was really helpful. Just wanted to say thank you. You're an awesome teacher, and very helpful.
I just wanted to write a quick letter to tell you of my appreciation for all the time and effort that you put into my class. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the music, the detail and insight that you bring into each piece. I know that you must an enormous amount of your own time, and I am grateful for it. I also appreciate all of the extra work on the web site, and the organization of the information. You are a wonderful instructor.
I just wanted to relay my gratitude to you . . . for you have done to make access to this class [via the Web to an out-of-town site] as painless as possible. This was the first time I have been on-line for anything, and it has been a great learning experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
One of the two best professors that I ever had in all the classes that I have taken the last 50 years. Both were ladies. Surprising! [The first] ranked as one of the best [because] she certainly challenged me like no other teacher in other words, she brought the best out of me. That is the same reason why you rank right with her in excellence in teaching. How you use the Internet is exciting! This weekend I will be driving to a physics convention. Guess what tape I will be listening to and diagnosing all the songs?

As many students are reluctant and uninterested in taking Humanities courses, I imagine this would be a difficult course to teach. Ms. Burns did an excellent job in presenting interesting and animated lectures.
I enjoyed this class a lot. You made me want to learn and showed me the steps to learning. Being in your class helped me as a student.
The instructor put 110% into her job as a teacher. Florida State could use a lot more instructors of this nature!
The thing I liked MOST about this course was: The instructor's enthusiasm. She realized that the purpose of educating is to educate and was helpful to the students. She made the class and subject enjoyable and enlightening.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class and felt that I learned an enormous amount of information. I think these feelings are only due to the teacher, because at first I had a bad attitude about Humanities.
Ive become very interested in this course and may even major in Humanities. Even though it was required, I feel like a well-rounded student after taking this course. [ ] I feel confident to go to a famous museum and tell about those paintings I've learned about. Plus your individual help was greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I really enjoyed this class and you you are the first instructor that I enjoyed going to class for!! Thank you I could really relate to you and the class.
I think this class is an essential part of everyones college career. I feel I have learned more practical things about life in here than in any other course I have ever taken.
I really got a lot out of the course and was enriched by it. She really cares about the individual students and the Humanities. She embodies the subject and philosophy she teaches. Best teacher I've ever had, partly because really cares and helps student learn.
[The] teacher was energetic, enthusiastic, and a good teacher. Probably one of my best so far.
I found this class extremely interesting and enjoyable. The time passed too quickly I love humanities and the teacher was great.

I wanted to thank you for introducing me to a subject that I really didnt know existed. It was so exciting for me to discover an actual subject that encompasses my love of art, language/literature, music, and culture into one. Ill keep you posted about my futureone in which I may be pursing future education in Humanities. Not since German has a topic sparked me like this, and I think your presentation of it deserves much of the credit. I drank in every word. I am glad to know that an asset like you is wandering around NAU, making people whole.
I really want to you know, Dr. Burns, that you class was great. It challenged me and helped me to focus on key issues both in the book and outside of it, but most of all everything stuck in my memory and I attribute it to your teaching style. I remember so much and I really learned valuable techniques on how to think across the spectrum [ ] I will take your class with meinto my classroom.
I like Ellen Burns ways of relating information to students. I admire her ability to teach all these subjects in so little time.
Dr. Burns is knowledgeable and well-rounded. She has wonderful insights to share and does so in a manner that sparks our interest.
Your class is one of my favorite classes in spite of my attitude starting the semester. You know Humanities is not one of my strong points.
Little do you know that this is my saving grace. I love coming to your class and just listening (and learning) about the films, music, art, etc. I just wanted you to know that your broadening my mind and helping my otherwise bland semester become an intriguing one.
Ive listened to Reichs album a few times nowto my girlfriends despairand have grown very fond of Its Gonna Rain (pt. 2). Much like Come Out, Reich uses the voice of a preacher and loops two identical recordings until they gradually go out of phase. So, once again thank you for sparking my interest in Steve Reich!
Dr. Burns is a wonderful teacher. She is enthusiastic and upbeat which keeps the students interest. She is concerned about her students and she is there for questions, comments, opinions, or ideas. I truly enjoyed this class .
I really enjoy Dr. Burns enthusiasm and how excited she is about things. I think her teaching style is incredible and I hope, in my teaching career, I can use some of her tactics that make her such a successful instructor.

The teacher was enthusiastic and helped us learn about the films and the techniques. We went into the movies knowing what we were looking for and were able to get into the class discussions.
It was extremely interesting and at the same time educational. Ms. Burns is one of the best teachers that I have had.
This was the first required class Ive liked. Ms. Burns was interesting and made the whole class feel comfortable. She treated us like her equals and we really enjoyed the class discussions about the movies. Id just like to thank her for such a wonderful time.
Ellen Burns, youre great!! Keep it upyoure a superb teacher Im gonna follow in your foot steps.
Ms. Burns is a wonderful teacher! She is personable and interesting. She kept my attention and made the material and learning stimulating.
I really liked the way the class was taught. Ms. Burns always made sure everyone understood. The things I have learned in this class, I will remember.
Ms. Burns was an excellent teacher and everyone in the class was very receptive to her teaching methods.
Ms. Burns keeps thing going, thoroughly explains new ideas or subjects, she holds the attention of the class, and seems to care what you (the student) think.
The thing I liked MOST about this course was: The new insight in which I watch movies for more than just the entertainment.
I like film a lot, and I like being able to talk about film with a competent teacher like [Ms.] Burns.
I felt very much at ease in this class it seemed more like a group of people getting together to discuss films than a class.
Ms. Burns is a excellent teacher. She honestly enjoys her job and is helpful to the students.
