Jonathan Reed Winkler is an associate professor of history at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He is a historian of U.S. diplomatic, military and naval history, and international affairs in the 19th and 20th centuries. He is the author of Nexus: Strategic Communications and American Security in World War I (Harvard, 2008), which won several prizes including the Paul Birdsall Prize (2010). His articles, reviews and commentaries have appeared in Diplomatic History, Journal of Military History, International Journal, the Naval War College Review, the International Journal of Naval History, and on H-Diplo and H-War.
His current project, aimed at a book-length monograph, is an analysis of how the United States government coordinated commercial and military communications networks to meet transforming global strategic interests across the entire 20th century. Winkler received his PhD. in diplomatic and international history in 2004 from Yale University, and is a graduate of Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). Active in the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations and the Society for Military History, Winkler is presently a member of the Executive Council of the Ohio Academy of History.
