Bio: Texas A&M University--San Antonio: A&M-SA is an upper-division only university with over 4,500 students (Fall 2015) enrolled in undergraduate programs and select graduate programs. The university received independent accreditation by SACSCOC in December 2014. As part of its move toward becoming a comprehensive university, A&M-SA will begin admitting first and second year students in Fall 2016, pending SACSCOC approval. The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing institution. The university has identified cybersecurity, cyber-physical security, and water resources science as the initial thrust areas for research. Part of the statewide Texas A&M University System, A&M-SA is located on 694 acres in south San Antonio and offers a 21st century education to a diverse student body. Built in the style of the historic Spanish missions, the main campus facilities leverage technology to enhance the university’s commitment to student success, while embracing the spirit of San Antonio’s rich culture. Self-reported demographic data indicate 56% of students are the first generation in their family in college, 67% are Hispanic, and 63% are women. The goal is to meet students ‘where they are’, be sensitive to their needs and committed to their progressive and sustained growth. A&M-SA prides itself in being agile and audacious in thinking. The faculty and staff are working to implement data driven and proven high impact practices in teaching and learning, including the learning community model, that lead to student persistence and college completion. It seeks faculty who are committed to this vision, are willing to innovate and experiment, and create a national model for student success. |
