Bio: Jon G. Malek received his PhD from Western University (London, Ontario) in March 2019, and graduated as a member of the Migration and Ethnic Relations collaborative graduate program. His dissertation was on Filipino immigration to Canada, and his research interests include the Filipino diaspora, Philippine nationalism, and post-colonial identity in the Philippines. He has published on history and memory in the Oral History Forum d’histoire orale (2015) and most recently on Filipino identity in the diaspora through ethnic media in Philippine Studies (March 2019). He has presented two papers in the Philippines in 2015 (Ateneo University’s IPC Summer School) and 2018 (Bridging the Archives, Illumining the World). Jon has taught Asian history survey courses at the University of Manitoba since 2015. Jon is also interested in immigration history, ethnic relations, global Filipino migration, and Asian history. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Manitoba. |
