Bio: Currently, I am a visiting assistant professor of history at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Working under the direction of Joanne Pope Melish, I received my Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in December 2013. My dissertation, "Whiteness in Africa: Americo-Liberians and the Transformative Geographies of Race", examines the constructed racial identities of African American settlers in colonial Liberia as they crisscrossed the Atlantic between the United States and West Africa during the first half of the nineteenth century I have also served as a book review editor for a peer-reviewed journal. From July 2012 to July 2013, I was awarded a fellowship at the Kentucky Historical Society serving as the Graduate Editorial Assistant (GEA) of the Register of Kentucky Historical Society. While the position entailed many editorial assignments with the journal, the primary function of the GEA is to be responsible for all facets of the book review section—book selection, recruitment , solicitation, and editing. |
