Bio: I am an historian of the early modern era and work primarily in the history of Christianity and in the history of the law, both European and North American. I also teach courses in the history of Christian thought ancient to modern. Past projects include an investigation of professional and lay-led understandings of the law; how a transplanted continental European population appropriated understanding of Anglo-American legal and political concepts; early modern Protestant debates over the definition and purpose of marriage. I am currently finishing another project on the problem of legal change and the canonical tradition of the Orthodox Christian tradition and beginning an examination of the question of whether the early modern era holds important clues for Orthodox Christians in understanding the issue of religious rights. |
