Department of History
Jon Hunner has taught at New Mexico State University since 1995. He teaches US History, Atomic History, and Public History. He has directed the department's Public History Program and also has served as the academic head of the department.

Jon Hunner has lived in New Mexico most of his life and has an abiding love of the Land of Enchantment. His two monographs, Inventing Los Alamos, and J. Robert Oppenheimer, the Cold War, and the Atomic West, were published by the University of Oklahoma Press. As a public historian, he assists communities around the state in preserving and interpreting their own histories and heritages. Hunner also serves as the vice president of Bridging Ages, an international organization dedicated to using nearby history to make the past come alive.
