Bio: Pamela Karimi received her Ph.D. in history and theory of art and architecture from the Department of Architecture at MIT in 2009. Previous to her current appointment as Assistant Professor of Art History at UMass Dartmouth, Pamela had taught Islamic art at Brandeis University, Wellesley College, and Lawrenceville academy. Her articles and reviews have appeared in Persica, Perspecta, International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, The Art Journal, Thresholds, Bidoun, The Arab Studies Journal, and The Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures. She is the recipient of the 2009 I.B. Tauris Best Essay Award for Anthropology of Iran and the 2010 Scott Opler Grant for Emerging Professionals from The Society of Architectural Historians. Pamela is currently working on her book manuscript, 'Domesticity and Consumer Culture in Iran: Interior Revolutions of the Modern Era' (Routledge, est. 2012), for which she has received fellowships from MIT’s Aga Khan Program, SSRC, AAUW, and ACLS, among others. |
