Bio: Richard Clayton Smoot (aka Rick Smoot) born in Bellefonte, Kentucky; Ashland, Kentucky, public schools; Ashland Community College; Marshall University, B. A., 1978 (History major; English and German minors); Marshall University, M. A., 1981, History; University of Kentucky, Ph.D., 1988, History: studied under Charles P. Roland, George Herring, Lance Banning, Gerard Silberstein, and James Albisetti: specialized in the History of the American South and political history. Dissertation: "John Sherman Cooper: The Paradox of a Liberal Republican in Kentucky Politics." Also extensive experience in oral history and public history. Numerous publications, oral history interviews (most deposited in the Special Collections and Archives section of the University of Kentucky), and community and academic service activities. Administrative experience covering a wide spectrum of activities, especially authorship/editorial for federal and private funding.Presently Professor of History, Bluegrass Community and Technical College (formerly the University of Kentucky Lexington Community College), and formerly adjunct faculty in History at the University of Kentucky(2000-2011). |
