I think it would be interesting to try to explore how the rise of the British Commonwealth reflected a power-sharing among the world's ruling classes, one not so neatly fit into the Western Great Power discourse, which defines hwo we usually study the 20th c.

I have been concerned for most of my career with the issue of orientalism understood as a part of eurocentric history writing. I have been thinking about this from the vantage point of world history and from the vantage point of area studies, doing so with a specialized interest in Egypt. i continue to pursue both aspects.
