University of Iowa
I am an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Iowa. I use approaches from medical anthropology, gender studies and science and technology studies to study the relationships between sexual health interventions and selfhood in Mexico.
My recent research examined the ways that aging, chronic illness and medical treatment for erectile dysfunction shape older Mexican men’s ideas and practices of masculinity. I am now beginning a new project at the Cuernavaca, Mexico hospital where I did my previous fieldwork, exploring the co-construction of heterosexuality, love and illness identity among couples enrolled in a longitudinal study of HPV transmission.
