Bio: I am graduated from law (Faculty of Law and Administration at Warsaw University). Since April, 2003 I have been working for the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling of the Warsaw University (ICM) as a deputy director of the Centre. My major responsibilities are to supervise and coordinate all every day activities of the Centre, including the administrative procedures. The ICM is one of the basic units of the Warsaw University with a very wide area of activity. Just to mention a few: we are a research centre, as well as a high performance computing centre. We provide access to very rich sources of information (including our Virtual Library System), we offer access to specialized software for various research applications, our digital weather forecast for the Central Europe is famous for its reliability. We also participate in some European research projects and we cooperate with various institutions and companies outside Europe. From September 1995 to April 2003 I worked for the State Committee for Scientific Research, starting as a senior specialist and reaching a director post in 2000.I supervised and coordinated the development of the IT infrastructure for research in Poland. That included planning budget funds for that purpose, distribution of funds, permanent control of the investments undertaken, evaluation of the reports, planning the strategy of the development of the IT infrastructure for research in Poland, involvement in preparation works of the programme on the development of IT infrastructure for research for 2001-2006.The other – very wide – area of my activity was information society development in Poland, which covered legal solutions stimulating such development, initiatives on local and governmental levels and international cooperation. On behalf of the Polish government I negotiated the terms and conditions of Poland’s participation in eContent programme (the European programme on stimulating of the development and implementation of the European digital resources in global networks).I also participated in preparation works on „eEurope+2003 - A Co-operative Effort to Implement the Information Society in Europe" Action Plan, which was adopted in Goeteborg in 2001 during the European Summit.I was a delegate to the Information Society Technologies Committee (the management committee of the IST) within 5. Framework Programme of the European Union for Research, Technology Development and Demonstration and a member of the Joint High Level Committee for Information Society – the committee consisting of representatives of the European Commission and of the high level representatives of the candidate countries to the European Union. The body concentrated on important issues on information society development in Europe. I was also a representative of the State Committee for Scientific Research to the European Networking Policy Group – the group gathering the European institutions financing the maintenance and development of the IT infrastructure for research in their countries.I was also a member of the Interministerial Group for Electronic Commerce as well as a member of the Ministerial Judging Commission on Violation of Public Finances Discipline, acting on behalf of the Minister of Science – Chairman of the State Committee for Scientific Research. My previous professional experience was rather wide: starting from public administration through journalist and translator’s practice and work with children and teenagers as a music and dance instructor – and coming back to public administration. |
