I earned my Ph.D. at the Univeristy of Minnesota where David Good was my advisor. My research concerns family history (especially inheritance) among peasants, with a focus on early nineteenth-century Austria. I have delivered papers on household structure, living arrangements of the elderly, widows, and inheritance practices mainly at the Social Science History Association. I published ?Becoming widowed. Rural widows in lower Austria, 1788-1848,? in _History of the Family_, and co-authored with Markus Cerman ?Forschungen zur Sozialgeschichte der Familie in der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie,? in _Wiener Wege zur Sozialgeschichte_.
