History of Science, Medicine, and Technology
I hold a Ph.D. (2000) and an MA(1996)in Science and Technology Studies from Cornell University. I teach survey courses in the history of science and technology, and upper division courses in the history of technology and international development, and the 20th century political history of Southeast Asia. I am currently working on a manuscript which explores the politics of technological change in colonial Indonesia. Two pertinent articles are:
“Empirical Knowledge, Colonial Authority, and Native Development: The Controversy over Sugar/Rice Ecology in the Netherlands East Indies, 1905-1914.” Environment and History, April 2004.
“The Trouble with Mechanized Farming: Colonial Politics of Technological Change in the Netherlands East Indies c. 1920.” East Asian Science, Technology, and Medicine (1999)
