Political History / Studies
I teach the US Survey to 1865, The History of American Political Parties 1787-present, US Constitutional HIstory 1787-present, and The History of American Presidential Elections 1788-present. My principal research interests have been in New Mexico politics in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. My current research project is a study of 19th Century Presidential Campaign Songs and their role in the several campaigns.
I have served in a variety of scholarly organizations in a variety of positions. I chaired the Membership Committee of the OAH, the Site Location Committee of the WHA, served as President Elect, and President of the Southwestern Hstorical Association an=mong other responsibilities. I am a life member of the AHA, OAH, WHA, SHA, and New Mexico Historical Association. I have twice been invited to give the Phi Alpha Theta Luncheon addresses at the Southern Historical Association and have twice been the principal speaker at the New Mexico Historical Association Annual Meeting.
