The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) and the Department of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invite applications for a tenure-track position in Korean History at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 16, 2024. We welcome applications from scholars whose research explores any topic or period within Korean history, but priority will be given to applicants whose research and teaching interests show a deep engagement with Korea’s late-Joseon, colonial, and/or postcolonial periods. All thematic emphases are welcome, including environmental history, colonialism, post-colonialism, nationalism, transnational studies, religion, labor, migration, diaspora, and gender and sexuality.
The successful candidate will be jointly appointed by the Department of EALC and the Department of History, with EALC being the home department. Candidates are expected to have an active research agenda and to teach a range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates must have a completed PhD in history or related fields and evidence of excellence in research and teaching effectiveness. Salary is commensurate with experience.
