The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2024.
We seek candidates with areas of specialization in one or more of the following areas: literature, cultural studies, women’s and gender studies, and media studies. Additionally, candidates with a regional focus that includes South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Japan are especially encouraged to apply.
We expect a candidate who can contribute to departmental curricular needs, collaborate with interdisciplinary scholars within and beyond the department, and push forward the department’s vision of transpacific studies.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses at both introductory and advanced levels in the Asian and Pacific Studies Program and help grow the number of majors and minors in Asian and Pacific Studies. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching and strong scholarship or scholarly potential. A Ph.D. in fields consistent with the position is required by the time of appointment. The typical teaching load for tenure-track faculty is 2-2-2-3 in a two-year cycle, with an expectation to advise students and to provide service to the department, the college, and the application materials (in pdf format) should be uploaded no later than October 30, 2023: (1) a letter of application, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) a statement of teaching philosophy, (4) student teaching evaluations (quantitative and qualitative).

(8) Three letters of recommendation (one of which must explicitly address the candidate’s teaching ability).
