The Department of History at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the history of health, medicine, and the body, beginning fall semester 2024. We will consider applicants whose research is focused on Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, or South America. We are especially interested in scholar-teachers whose work emphasizes any of the following: reproduction; sexuality; disability; mental health; pandemics; race and the body; structural inequalities in health outcomes; or health activism. While health, medicine, and the body must be central to the applicant’s work, we welcome applications from those who also engage with colonialism and environmental justice. The successful candidate should have experience in archives or field work and relevant language proficiency. The department recently revised its curriculum to reflect a commitment to developing thematic approaches to the history major that will complement existing geographical emphases. We therefore encourage applications from those who demonstrate the ability to cross spatial, cultural, and disciplinary borders in their teaching.

Full-time faculty at Colgate teach five courses a year (or their equivalent). New colleagues can expect to teach introductory and advanced courses, with opportunities to design specialized and experimental courses consistent with their interests and departmental needs. They will also participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.

Salary Range or Pay Grade
$89,500 (for ABD applicants) to $93,500 (for applicants with a PhD in hand)
