Description:
The University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs in conjunction with the Notre Dame Technology Ethics Center invites applicants for a tenure-track (open rank) professorship focused in the area of applied ethics and technology. The ideal candidate will have a strong research agenda in applied ethics focusing on the ethical issues related to AI and digital technology. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, the impact of AI and digital technology on poverty and inequality, on the future of work, on human dignity and democracy, or on the environment and climate change. For an accomplished senior candidate, an endowed chair would be considered.
Competitive candidates for this professorship will have a scholarly track record with evidence of high-quality research and, ideally, policy engagement in global and national discussions on ethical issues related to the use of AI and digital technology. To be considered at the Full or Associate Professor level, applicants should provide evidence of prominence in their academic field or among policy-makers and practitioners. Scholars from different disciplines with deep expertise on the intersection between ethics and AI/digital technology are encouraged to apply.
The professorship will be based in the Keough School (https://keough.nd.edu), which advances the Catholic mission of the University of Notre Dame through a commitment to integral human development. It promotes interdisciplinary and policy-relevant research on critical issues in global affairs, transformative educational programs, and partnerships for global engagement. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the Keough School in all dimensions of research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will also be appointed as an affiliated faculty member of Notre Dame’s interdisciplinary Technology Ethics Center.
