Description
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) invites applications for one (1) core assistant, associate, or full professor position in South Asian History (open rank). We are especially interested in candidates with a focus on gender and/or the environment, as well as a transregional understanding of South Asia's place in history whether in the modern or pre-modern context. The successful candidate will be able to teach required undergraduate courses in introductory and regional history, as well as upper-level electives at the advanced undergraduate level in the candidate's area of research specialization.
Core faculty positions are full-time positions designed to replicate the institutional commitment to academic freedom and professional opportunities associated with tenure-track and tenured appointments, in compliance with Georgetown University's academic governance guidelines. The successful applicant will take their place at a top-ranking research institution, and will have as colleagues a team of internationally recognized scholars.
GU-Q provides generous research support and support for conference travel. Junior core assistant professors are eligible for a research semester without teaching responsibilities. The teaching load for core faculty is 2-2. GU-Q boasts best-in-class teaching facilities including a Global Classroom for classes connecting students in Washington, D.C. and Doha.
Compensation is very competitive in relation to the US academic market. It includes an annual summer research stipend for active scholars, amounting to 2/9 of the base salary.
