JOB SUMMARY
The History Department at California State University, San Bernardino seeks to hire, at the rank of Assistant Professor, an historian of 18th-early 19th century United States History with an emphasis on Race, Ethnicity, and/or Gender and interest in Public History. The position is appointed in the History Department. Candidates with demonstrated success in teaching and supporting students from historically underrepresented and marginalized populations are encouraged to apply.
CSUSB seeks applications from individuals who are committed to teaching students who are first generation college students, who have followed non-traditional pathways to college and who come from societal, economic or academic disadvantages.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Responsibilities include teaching eight courses over two semesters, advising for undergraduate majors and graduate students.
The successful candidate will also teach one large enrollment, general education survey course of U.S. history and participate in the rotation of faculty teaching historical research and writing seminars and also develop courses in 18th-19th century United States History with an emphasis on Race, Ethnicity, and/or Gender and in Public History to meet the needs of the department.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in history or related field by time of appointment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research experience in 18th-19th century United States History with an emphasis on Race, Ethnicity, and/or Gender. Candidates with experience in public history institutions such as museums and archives and those who apply decolonization and incorporate community engagement in their work are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Evidence of teaching, scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
