The History Department at the United States Naval Academy invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in early American history. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in history or a closely related field and be U.S. citizens. Specialization within this subfield is open, but the committee welcomes applicants with expertise in borderlands and/or Native American history. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a survey course in world history or American naval history as part of the institution’s core curriculum. They will also offer upper level courses in areas of specialization, as well as majors-only seminars. The teaching load is 3-3 with small sections and 2-3 preps a year. Applications will be reviewed beginning October 2, 2023, but applications will be accepted after that date and until the position is filled. The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is a four-year undergraduate institution with a mission to prepare midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically for commissioning as officers in the naval services.
