Assistant Professor of African History

The Department of African and African American Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences at
Brandeis University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of African
History, beginning in Fall 2024. This position is subject to budget approval.
Candidates with a capacious and imaginative research and teaching portfolio; who have a keen
sense of, but are not limited by, the debates and protocols that have governed the field; and who
specialize in African History in any period or sub-field or methodology are encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time position in the Department of African and African American Studies, with a 2/2
undergraduate course load. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in
the university-wide and interdisciplinary African Diaspora Cluster Working Group, as well as
establish a relationship with the Department of History. While we welcome applications from
junior scholars at all levels of experience, the Ph.D. must be in hand by July 2024, before
employment.
