The Department of History at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship (full-time) in the history of the American West with research and teaching interests in the history of technology in the 20th and 21st centuries, the history of California, and the history of Silicon Valley, to begin fall 2024. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss how their research and teaching intersect with and leverage our location in Santa Clara Valley on the site of the historic Spanish mission Santa Clara, built on the ancestral lands of the Ohlone and the Muwekma Ohlone peoples. Teaching responsibilities will include courses that satisfy requirements of areas of the Core Curriculum, as well as departmental needs. Candidates should familiarize themselves with the University’s core (https://www.scu.edu/provost/core/).  The successful candidate will demonstrate not only potential for excellent undergraduate teaching, but also promise in sustained research with opportunities to involve undergraduates, mentoring or recruiting underrepresented groups, and service to the department, College, University, profession, and community appropriate to rank. Position begins September 1, 2024. Ph.D. in U.S. History required by September 1, 2024.
