The History Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Russian and/or Soviet History with a preferred specialization in borderlands history. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of Four years, beginning Fall 2024, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.
The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of Russian and Soviet History. In addition to teaching topical lecture and seminar courses in their subfield, the applicant will regularly teach a two-semester Russian and Soviet History survey course, as well as being part of the regular rotation to teach the History Department’s required history methods course. The incumbent will teach a yearly upper-level seminar course where Russian East European and Eurasian Studies (REEES) majors will have the opportunity to use Russian language skills and which could count as a potential REEES capstone.
The incumbent will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and/or other creative work appropriate to the position and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising and service on committees.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the PhD degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2024-25). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
