Position Description
The Washington and Lee (W&L) University History Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in twentieth-century Eastern Europe and/or Russian/Soviet/Post-Soviet history at the Assistant/Associate level beginning in August 2024. Area and period of research specialty are open, but candidates whose research and teaching explore European Jewish history, European totalitarianisms, and/or human rights are particularly welcome. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to teach the department’s one-term introductory course in modern European history, courses in the histories of World War I and World War II, and offer courses in their own area of specialization at all levels. Candidates should also be prepared to contribute to the university’s interdisciplinary East European and Russian Studies program.

Qualification
A PhD at the time of appointment is required.

Candidates should submit a letter of application describing their teaching interests, experience, and pedagogical philosophy, summarizing their current and future scholarship, and reflecting their work with a diverse student population.
