Job Summary:
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences invites applications for a one-year Special Faculty/Lecturer position in the Department of History, Anthropology, and Modern Languages & Literatures to begin mid- September 2023. This position will specialize in American History. The candidate hired into this position will receive a non-renewable, one-year appointment for AY2023-2024.
The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities involving a variety of American History courses based on the candidate's expertise and the needs of the department. A typical workload for this position will include 45 credits per academic year, subject to department needs. Teaching responsibilities will include the following: teaching both halves of the program's American history survey as well as upper-division courses in modern U.S. History. The candidate should be ready to teach face-to-face and online course offerings. Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in History with an emphasis in Modern U.S. History; Candidates who are A.B.D will also be considered.
• Teaching experience in Modern U.S. History.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be granted to candidates who offer one or more of the following preferred qualifications:
• College-level teaching experience in Modern U.S. History, including online teaching.
• Expertise in Foreign Policy, Gender Studies, Asian-American History, or Oral History.
• Active involvement in community engagement and/or ties to the local history community.
• Experience working with first generation students and under-represented groups.

Teaching: typical workload for this position will involve 45 credits per academic year and the candidate may be required to teach other courses that fulfill the need of the Department and Program according to the expertise of the candidate hired into the position.

• Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
• Schedule and attend office hours
• Turn in grades according to established deadlines
• Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities involving a variety of American History and Modern U.S. History courses based on the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the department.

Conditions of Employment:
The candidate hired into this position will receive a non-renewable one-year appointment for AY2023-2024.
The required start date for this position is 09/16/2023. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2023.
