The University of West Alabama invites applications for a Historian of European, British or Irish History. We will especially welcome applications from candidates with the ability to also offer instruction in any area of Non-Western History.

Effective Date: January 4, 2024

Appointment: Full-time, tenure track, 9-month appointment

Qualifications

Essential:

1. Ph.D. in European, British, or Irish History (advanced, exceptional ABD candidates may be considered).
2. Additional training or background needed to teach Non-Western History.
3. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and administration.
4. Commitment to quality teaching and mentorship of undergraduate students.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Documented collegiate-level teaching experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Offer regularly the department's European and British History courses.
2. Offer regularly non-Western history courses.
3. Teach four undergraduate courses in History per academic semester.
4. Fulfill other faculty responsibilities, including participating in university and community service.
5. Offer to students a minimum of ten office hours each week on a fixed schedule.
6. Perform other tasks as required by the appropriate administrators.
