Visiting Assistant Professor of Health Studies

Haverford College is hiring a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Health Studies for the 2023-24 academic year. 

The Health Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate minor that brings together social science, humanities, and natural science perspectives on health and human flourishing. The minor is offered jointly with Bryn Mawr College; students take classes within Health Studies and health-related electives across a wide range of departments and programs in the Bi-College Consortium. The curriculum centers the political economy of health, histories and cultures of medicine and public health, structural racism and health inequities, lived experiences of health, illness, and disability, and social movements to advance health justice.  

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Health Studies will teach three courses in the fall and two courses in the spring semester. Teaching responsibilities may include sections of Introduction to Health Studies, 200-level survey courses, and 300-level seminars in the instructors’ area of expertise.

This is a full-time position with benefits, including eligibility for subsidized on-campus housing (subject to availability) and a modest fund to support research and conference travel.

Qualifications

We invite applications from scholars with a doctoral degree in a social science, humanities, or relevant interdisciplinary field whose research and teaching centrally concern health, illness, or medicine. A background in public health (MPH or similar) is helpful but not required. ABD candidates will be considered.
