Rice University’s seeks to appoint a two-year lecturer in German Studies to begin in the fall of 2023. The area of specialization is open, but candidates working in German literature, culture, and language from 1750 to the present and/or Cinema and Media Studies are strongly preferred. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. by July 1, 2023. Native or near-native proficiency in German is essential. The successful candidate will carry a track record of significant undergraduate teaching experience.
The appointment will begin 07/01/2023. This is a full-time position, benefits eligible, with a 2/3 teaching load with relatively small class sizes. Teaching German Studies is generally focused on 200 and 400 level courses in culture, literature and/or interdisciplinary fields including Environmental Studies; Medical Humanities; Politics, Law and Social Thought; Film or Museum Studies.
Job Duties
Teaching a variety of German Studies courses on the undergraduate level, including introductory courses and upper-level seminars
Advising undergraduates
Participating in professional development
Requirements
Ph.D. in any academic field pertaining to German Studies. All requirements for the degree must be completed by July 1, 2023.
