Research Assistant Professor/Postdoctoral Fellowship in Race or Gender History
The Department of History and the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies seek a Research Assistant Professor or Postdoctoral Fellow in Race or Gender History. The appointment, which will begin on or about 26 June 2023, is for one year with the possibility to extend for a second. The position is open to junior scholars who received their doctorates no earlier than 31 December 2017. Candidates are expected to have expertise in the History of Race or Gender, and in American History or Comparative/ Regional World History. The selectee will teach an American History or a Regional World History survey course; an elective course in Race, Ethnicity, Nation, and Gender; and possibly an advanced undergraduate seminar in the candidate's area(s) of specialty. The selectee is also expected to produce original research prior to the conclusion of the Professorship/Fellowship. The selectee will assist the Director of West Point’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies with Center administration, projects, and activities. The selectee will also help administer West Point’s Diversity and Inclusion Studies Minor and may contribute to West Point’s Black History Project. The selectee also may prepare and organize an intensive study of Asian Immigration to the United States. They may have the opportunity to work with the Department of Defense on human rights and atrocity prevention activities and research.
Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria: 1) academic accomplishment (a Ph.D. in the History of Race/Gender by time of appointment is preferred), 2) scholarly potential, 3) ability to teach an introductory survey in a Regional World History or American History course, 4) experience in student-centered and active-learning instruction, 5) ability to contribute to Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies initiatives and assist with administration of the center. Status as Research Assistant Professor or Postdoctoral Fellow will be determined based on scholarly accomplishment and previous teaching experience.
