The History Program at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of History, beginning August 2023. The successful candidate will teach four, 3-credit courses in each of the Fall and Spring semesters. Teaching load will include introductory and upper-level History classes which focus on modern American history. Preference will be given to candidates proficient in Texas History. The ideal candidate will, likewise, demonstrate proficiency in World History and/or Cultural Geography.
Other duties of the position include: advising current and prospective students studying History; collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the community; participating in recruitment activities for the History program as well as the university; providing service to the university through involvement in committees as well as university activities (e.g., commencement); and engaging in ongoing scholarly work as well as professional development.
A doctoral degree in History is preferred, though ABD candidates will be considered. Teaching experience is preferred. A master’s degree in History (or closely related area) is required.
Successful candidates must profess a Christian Faith, maintain membership in a local congregation, and respect the values and distinctives central to the historically Baptist values of HSU as reflected in the University's Statement of Faith
