Two openings for Assistant/Associate Professor (Lecturer): one in Organization Studies, one in The History of Business Thought

Non-tenure track CAREER-LINE Faculty Positions in Organizational Studies: The Department of Management at the David Eccles School of Business of the University of Utah (eccles.utah.edu/) seeks to fill two career-line positions in organizational studies starting in August 2023, contingent on funding. Career-line faculty members focus on teaching (typically with a 4:3 load). One position will focus on traditional management/organizational behavior courses, whereas the other position will focus on teaching our “Foundations of Business Thought” and related courses, which weave together liberal arts, philosophy, history, and social science as applied to business. These courses include survey and targeted courses on how business reflects and influences the broad context of human experience. The courses include humanities and social science topics and require students to develop critical and integrative thinking skills. The group also helps direct Honors Projects and supports student teams for case competitions and consulting engagements. In addition, members of the group are expected to contribute to scholarship in their respective academic fields, albeit to a much lesser degree than tenure-track positions.
 

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in organizational behavior or in a field appropriate for teaching the “Foundations’’ course (e.g., a Ph.D. in a humanities or social science field with connections to business; or those with a terminal degree in other fields with extensive experience teaching business and liberal education), or show evidence of an earned doctorate by August 1, 2023. Candidates for a position at the assistant or associate professor rank (career-line) are invited to apply. We are seeking individuals with a strong interest in teaching both undergraduates and graduate students. Evidence of teaching success, especially with students from diverse backgrounds, is a strong advantage. As this is a teaching-oriented position, a record of scholarship and publishing is a plus but not required, as is experience in business or other organizations. The Management Department tenure-track faculty includes Bryan Bonner, Kristina Diekmann, Jesse Graham, Glen Kreiner, Kylie Rochford, Harris Sondak, Amelia Stillwell, David Tannenbaum, and Elizabeth Tenney. The Management Department also has three groups of career-line faculty. Our communications group includes Kathryn Cañas, Jennifer Cummings, Stacey Overholt, Aaron Phillips, Georgi Rausch, and Jessie Richards; our business and liberal education group includes Mark Crowley and Derek Hoff; and our organizational behavior group includes Ariel Blair, Gohar Harutyunyan, and Lindsey Gibson. With a shared interest in the dynamics of organizational life, this group of scholars conducts research in a broad range of topics including (but not limited to) ethical decision making in organizations, individual and group decision making processes, intra-group conflict, business history, negotiations, stigma, diversity and prejudice at work, organizational justice, workplace relationships, interpersonal and business communication, and identity processes. Our faculty are known for their research and teaching excellence. The Management Department has a robust doctoral program and teaches actively in master’s programs.
 

The David Eccles School of Business offers degree programs at the undergraduate, masters, executive, and doctoral levels, and teaching opportunities are available in various programs based on experience level and expertise. The Management Department also offers courses in our non-degree executive education program.
