JOB DESCRIPTION:
Goucher College invites applications for an endowed professorship (full-time, ten-month, tenure-track position) at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural Studies, starting in August 2023. We are seeking a dynamic colleague whose courses and research interests are rooted at the intersection between Judaic studies and American history and culture. This individual will contribute to the Department's American Studies major, Religion and Justice minor and other programs through courses on Jewish religion, history, and culture. The successful candidate will also teach courses that meet our core curriculum - the Goucher Commons. The course load for this position is five four-credit courses per academic year (two of which must be Judaic Studies). In addition to teaching responsibilities, candidates will be expected to have an ongoing scholarly research agenda and to provide departmental and college-wide service. As the majority of Goucher's American Studies majors are students in the Goucher Prison Education Partnership, this individual will be encouraged to participate in this growing component of the Goucher College educational experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Judaic Studies, American Studies, or a closely related field by time of appointment. The area of specialization must be in Judaic studies, broadly defined.
- Interdisciplinary teaching and research experience in Judaic studies.
- Active research agenda
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest and/or experience in higher education in prisons
- Minimum two years of teaching experience using inclusive pedagogies
- Teaching and research experience at the intersection between Judaic studies and American culture.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Salary Range: $63,000 - $67,387
