The Department of History consists of 15 full-time faculty members, 12 of whom are tenure-track or tenured. We are a community of historians dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and service. We use history to empower scholars, students, and the public at large to use critical thinking and communication skills to expand curiosity, creativity, compassion, tolerance, and integrity in our diverse and ever-changing world. We have around 310 undergraduate majors, one-half of whom major in History and Social Studies Education, as well as an active Master’s program.
This is a non-tenure track, full-time, benefit eligible, academic year appointed position on the Flagstaff Mountain campus beginning August 21, 2023.
Job Description
The Department of History at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a full-time, 1-year (sabbatical replacement) Visiting Lecturer or Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in U.S. History with a preference with candidates who can teach U.S. Women/Gender History and/or U.S. Environmental History. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive undergraduate teaching and mentorship.
The successful candidate will offer U.S. history courses at both introductory and advanced levels, including U.S. history surveys. The regular teaching load is 4:4.
Minimum Qualifications
Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor
Ph.D. in U.S. History or related field conferred by August 21, 2023.
Teaching experience at the university level.
Lecturer
ABD in U.S. History or related field.
Teaching experience at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of excellence in teaching U.S. history at the undergraduate level.
Demonstrable ability to teach U.S. Women’s History and/or U.S. Environmental History.
Evidence of excellence in research in U.S. history.
Demonstrable commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice and working with underrepresented populations.
