The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences invites applicants for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professorship with a 3-3 course load, to begin in August 2023, pending budgetary approval. This position is outside the tenure stream. This position will be for a three-year period and is renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Salary and benefits are competitive and there are promotion opportunities possible according to guidelines established by the Dietrich school.
We welcome candidates who are dedicated to excellence in undergraduate teaching. We are open to candidates specializing in any historical time period and thematic field. As for their regional specialization, we seek candidates who teach courses on any region of the world outside of the Americas and the Atlantic world.
Required qualifications:
- Ph.D. in History (or closely related field) in hand by August 2023.
- Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
- Investment in innovative and effective pedagogical practices

3) Teaching Portfolio that includes a statement of your teaching philosophy and/or pedagogical practices, and that provides evidence of your teaching effectiveness through student evaluations, model assignments for a classroom, and at least one syllabus that includes a course description and outlines learning goals and assessment strategies.
4) Diversity Statement of 1-2 pages. Please explain how your past, planned, or potential contributions or experiences relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion would advance the University of Pittsburgh’s commitment to inclusive excellence.
