The primary focus for the Postdoctoral Fellow will be to build their professional network by organizing a conference/workshop around a theme of their choice. The Fellow can also work toward publishing and disseminating research that emerges from the conference. The format is open to the Fellow's discretion, who will work closely with the Centre's program coordinator to bring together participants from within and outside the academy. Together, the Fellow and Centre staff will organize public lectures, workshops, student discussion forums, and/or similar events around the same topic, which connect and engage interested persons from various arenas in the public sphere. Funding for the conference and for additional programming will be provided by the Centre. During their term, the Postdoc will also have the opportunity to teach at Augustana in an area related to their research interest.
The University of Alberta's Augustana Campus is located in Camrose, Alberta, approximately 90 kilometers southeast of Edmonton. Home to just over 1000 students, Augustana offers courses in over twenty areas of study across several bachelor's degree programs (https://www.ualberta.ca/augustana). The Chester Ronning Centre was established at Augustana in 2004. Its primary mandate is to facilitate interdisciplinary research, critical teaching, ethical reflection, and public programming on a range of issues in which religious communities, practices, and ideas are directly implicated, or on which thoughtful religious perspectives might be brought to bear. The Centre's International Fellows program aims to convene public intellectuals that have substantial knowledge of both religious and civil perspectives on current issues (https://www.ualberta.ca/augustana/research/centres/crc).
Please submit the following materials with your application:
• Curriculum vitae
• Cover Letter
• 1-2-page proposal outlining the conference's overall theme and structure, including names of potential participants to invite (academic and otherwise).
