Assistant Professor of History
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Oregon, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor |
The Department of History at Eastern Oregon University seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of History to start in Fall 2023. We seek a scholar whose expertise addresses the history of globalization, migrations, and environment, with consideration of climate-related migration and its political, economic and social impacts throughout history. Successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. in History by the time of appointment.
We are especially interested in candidates who take interdisciplinary and/or comparative approaches and who are committed to quality instruction. EOU is dedicated to the many first-generation and non-traditional students who attend, and the History program is keen to find a colleague ready to engage with them in the classroom. In the application materials candidates should address how their work supports the diversity and equity goals of the university, offer evidence of outstanding teaching, and describe their research agenda.
The standard teaching load is generally 36 quarter credits per academic year (2-3 courses each term), some of which are online, with an additional 9 credits dedicated to scholarship, service to the institution, and community outreach. In addition to teaching undergraduate surveys in World Civilizations, the successful candidate will develop upper division courses that explore the themes of global migration and environmental history.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A PhD in History from a regionally accredited institution is required by the start date (September 2023). ABD candidates will be considered, and finalists will be required to submit a letter from their dissertation advisor stating anticipated date of completion.
- Training and teaching experience in appropriate fields is required.
- Strong commitment to access, equity, and diversity, including the ability to work effectively with under-served and under-served college students.
- Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
- In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
Preferred Qualifiations:
- Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching experience and online teaching experience are preferred, as the position will require online and on-campus teaching.
- Additional consideration may be given to candidates demonstrating proficiency in Spanish and English speaking and writing.
