Flagler College, Department of Humanities
Assistant or Associate Professor of History, Colonial America and Atlantic World
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Florida, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor, Associate Professor |
Flagler College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track equivalent Assistant or Associate Professor in American Colonial History beginning August 2023. Given our location in historic St. Augustine, “the nation’s oldest city,” we seek a candidate who will engage with La Florida and the Atlantic World.
Responsibilities will include a 4/4 teaching load with upper-level courses in areas of the applicant’s expertise. The successful candidate is expected to develop original courses that complement existing program offerings, teach an Introduction to the United States course for History majors, and offer the capstone methodological courses for History majors on a rotating basis: Historical Methods and Senior Seminar.
Other responsibilities include creating and teaching classes within our exciting new Core General Education initiative (https://www.flagler.edu/academics/cace/general-educationcore-curriculum/), the Flagler Sophomore High Impact Practice (FlagSHIP) program, study abroad experiences, and developing interdisciplinary majors and/or minors. As a faculty member at a college that prioritizes classroom excellence, the successful candidate is expected to advise and mentor students, maintain a robust professional development agenda, and provide service to the larger college community.
Flagler College's mission is to enrich lives by creating a thoughtful, personalized experience in a supportive educational community, which the Humanities Department champions. We welcome you to an academic experience like no other: a coastal campus steeped in history with a distinguished faculty who will challenge, mentor, and engage students who have a passion for the History major.
A Ph.D. in History is required with specialization in Colonial America with a secondary field in the Atlantic World, the African Diaspora, Latin America, and/or First Nations and Indigenous Studies. Candidates must demonstrate a record of teaching and commitment to scholarly research and engagement within their field.
Applications should be addressed to the Chair of the Search Committee, Dr. Nicholas B. Miller, and submitted electronically via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/119558. Be sure to include a cover letter, current resume/CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, and three letters of reference in your application packet.
Screening will begin on February 10, 2023. We will conduct a first round of Zoom-based interviews soon thereafter for those who make the committee’s shortlist. Finalists will be invited for on-campus in early March.
