Job Ad Information/Description:
The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Saint Louis University, a vibrant department committed to diversity, inclusion, social justice, activism, scholarship, community, and equity, is hiring an Associate/Full Professor.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. with expertise in gender and/or sexuality studies, but we welcome candidates with any area of specialization. We especially welcome and encourage applications from scholars in underrepresented groups (including, but not limited to, gender expansive identities, disability, race, nationality, and neurodivergence), as research shows that they are less likely to apply for and hold senior faculty positions.
The normal teaching assignment for tenured and tenure-track faculty is 2/2, with expectations that faculty have an active research program and provide departmental service.
About Our Department
Women’s and Gender Studies offers a B.A., an undergraduate minor, a graduate minor, and a graduate certificate. We are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year and are at an exciting time of growth and expansion. The incoming faculty member will be a key part of our growth.
Our faculty and staff are an energized and dedicated group devoted to fostering an imaginative, innovative, and radically inclusive environment with opportunities for collaboration across multiple disciplines and in the community. We advance social justice throughout our dynamic classroom discussions, rigorous scholarship, and effective action. We analyze and combat systems of inequality based on gender, sexuality, and gender identity, and explore how these systems intersect with other axes of power, such as racism, classism, and ableism. Both in and outside the classroom, we embrace a model of active, informed engagement that envisions and works to create a more just and sustainable world.
About Saint Louis University
SLU’s Jesuit mission asks that we create a just world by walking with those who are most marginalized, and the university is taking steps to realize that mission. SLU is investing fiscal and human resources into the Division for Diversity and Innovative Community Engagement, a new university-wide core with learning outcomes highlighting social justice, a research institute for Healing Justice and Equity, and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team within the College of Arts and Sciences
SLU is also undergoing rapid growth in grant-funded and scholarly research. To maintain and accelerate this growth, SLU is making major investments in faculty hiring and research support and is on track to achieve Carnegie 1 research classification in the next five years.
