Instructor of Philosophy—University of South Carolina Aiken
The Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) invites applications for an Instructor of Philosophy to start August 16, 2023. This position primarily serves engineering majors; students minoring in philosophy, pre-law, and religious studies; and general education students. Responsibilities include a 4-4 teaching load in philosophy and religious studies (Engineering Ethics, Introduction to Formal Logic, Introduction to Asian Religions and Philosophies, and additional philosophy and possibly religious studies courses), as well as service to the department, university, profession, and community. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in person every semester, with likely online teaching as well.
We seek an individual with:
- demonstrated excellence in teaching in-person and online Philosophy and Religious Studies courses at the undergraduate level.
- commitment to the personal and professional growth of students, willingness to mentor students outside the classroom and supervise and assist with student organizations.
- demonstrated commitment to or experience with professional service
- commitment to being an active member of a collegial, inter-disciplinary department.
A Master’s degree in philosophy required by time of application with graduate coursework or relevant experience in religious studies. Strong preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience teaching in both disciplines. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
The Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy offers B.A. degrees in History and Political Science, along with minors in History, Political Science, Philosophy, Pre-Law, and Religious Studies. We serve approximately sixty majors and all USCA undergraduates through our general education offerings. The department includes eleven full-time faculty members, representing four disciplines.
