The History Department at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Modern European History (after 1800). This is a full-time, two-year position beginning July 1, 2023. Position and Qualifications
The teaching load for the year will be six classes (typically three classes per semester). Teaching responsibilities will include a variety of courses at the introductory and advanced levels. Additionally, candidates will be expected to help with the supervision of senior theses in their area of specialization. The successful candidate will possess expertise in the history of interactions between Europe and the wider world and will demonstrate the ability to emphasize comparative, transnational, and/or global perspectives in their teaching. Desired specializations include, but are not limited to, the following themes: empire and colonialism, gender and sexuality, migration, science, medicine, technology, and environment.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in history in hand by July 1, 2023 and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level, particularly at a liberal arts institution.
