Job Description
Northern Arizona University's Honors College invites applicants for four full-time, benefit-eligible positions on the Flagstaff Mountain campus beginning Fall 2023. The positions are teaching-focused, non-tenure eligible, and at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor. Appointment will be based on the credentials of the candidate. Although renewal is contingent on performance and College needs, the position is expected to be continuing, with potential for promotion. The successful candidates will teach a 4/4 load (12 credits per semester). Class topics will vary depending on the content specialty of the successful candidates and the needs of the College. The positions will begin August 2023.
¿The Honors College consists of a dynamic group of core faculty members from a number of different disciplines who are committed to teaching, writing, and verbal communication. These faculty members are responsible for the delivery of our core course: HON 190: Honors Colloquium. In addition, faculty design and teach HON 29x and 39x, which are innovative and creative topics courses that cover one of three areas in General Studies: Social and Political Worlds (including American Institutions), Scientific Literacy and Scientific Methods, and Arts and Humanities. We also mentor, advise, and/or work with students on more independent projects, including the Honors capstone. Finally, faculty also teach HON 303, which guides advanced students in completing their Honors capstone proposals. We value hands-on and project-based learning that includes community engagement and/or social justice as well as interdisciplinary teaching and/or research.

Minimum Qualifications
Lecturer Rank:
• Master's degree
• University teaching experience as the primary instructor of record
Assistant Teaching Professor Rank:
• Earned terminal degree
• University teaching experience as the primary instructor of record
Both ranks will have experience supporting diverse perspectives as evidenced by coursework, courses taught, or as described in letter of application.
Preferred Qualifications
• Terminal Degree in applicant's discipline
• Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching including experience teaching writing-centered, undergraduate, seminar-style classes
• Honors teaching experience
• Ability to create and teach a wide variety of General Studies courses (as listed above) using innovative teaching styles (e.g., discussion-based courses, use of experiential pedagogies), which could be indicated by sample syllabi, teaching demonstrations, and/or public talks/conference papers
• Knowledge or background in more than one discipline or perspective and/or willingness to explore general topics beyond one's primary discipline
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching from an interdisciplinary perspective or evidence of potential teaching effectiveness, which could be indicated by sample syllabi, course evaluations, teaching demonstrations, and or public talks/conference papers
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusive practices
• Success in leading and moderating class discussions

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the http://nau.edu/Provost/Resources-Policies/. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
