Summary: Alma College in Alma, Michigan invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of European History from ancient to pre-1800. Ideal candidates will demonstrate an interest in teaching European history within a global context; a secondary field in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, or Latin American history is desirable. We especially welcome candidates interested in designing courses with visual knowledge and digital skills. This position begins in August 2023. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in history prior to the start date, with visual and digital training and teaching experience.
Teaching Responsibilities: The department seeks a candidate who will be able to teach a wide range of courses from ancient to early modern Europe with a secondary field of a different region. Teaching responsibilities include introductory to upper-level courses required of history and history teaching majors that also serve the college’s general education program, supervising students’ research and independent studies, and student advising. The successful candidate should have demonstrated excellence in teaching and engagement in students’ research and academic advising. Typical teaching load is six units per year.
Research and Service Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to establish a productive research and scholarship agenda. Service to the college through committee work and other activities is expected of all tenure-track faculty.
