The Department of Theology at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure track position in Religions in the Black Atlantic World at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2023. A Ph.D. or Th.D. in Theology or Religious Studies is required, with ABD candidates considered.
We are open to a range of theoretical approaches to studying religion in the Black Atlantic world, including from theology, biblical studies, and the history of religions. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to and expand existing departmental curricular offerings and have a knowledge of and appreciation for post-Vatican II Catholic theology. The Department of Theology is especially interested in exceptionally well-qualified applicants who will contribute, through their research, teaching, and service to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
- Teach 12 credit hours per semester
- Develop and maintain an active research program
- Mentor undergraduate students in research projects
- Advise Theology majors
- Develop and sustain independent and externally funded research
