The US Air Force School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS) is seeking applications for a six-to-twelve month visiting Colin S. Gray professor in strategy and security studies for the 2023-2024 academic year, renewable for an additional year. The successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarly publishing and teaching. Specialization is bounded only by an expertise in strategy and security studies; applicants from traditional academic fields and/or those possessing significant experience in professional practice are encouraged to apply. Research specializations or interests in contemporary national security problems, military history, international relations, technology and innovation, airpower, space power, and cyber operations are highly desirable.
SAASS is an interdisciplinary academic program that educates strategists for the Air Force and the nation through a year-long graduate curriculum rooted in the art of strategy and strategic studies, enhancing the Air Force’s capacity to defend the US through the control and exploitation of air, space, and cyberspace. Graduates receive an accredited Master of Philosophy in Military Strategy degree with the possibility to continue toward a PhD in Military Strategy.
This position is governed by the Intergovernmental Personal Act (IPA). The successful applicant must have a right of return to their home institution of higher learning, non-profit, or think tank. SAASS duties normally include teaching up to one graduate-level seminar in the school’s block-schedule curriculum, advising master’s theses, and conducting individual research and writing. SAASS will pay the successful candidate’s current salary and benefits package through their home institution, normalized to a six-to-twelve-month period. SAASS also offers a relocation incentive directly to the candidate that varies upon the duration of the visit.
