The Department of Religious Studies at Loyola University New Orleans invites applications for an open rank (Associate or Full Professor) full-time appointment in Catholic Studies that will fill The Reverend Stephen J. Duffy Chair in Catholic Studies.
The desired research focus of the candidate is open and may cover any subfield with any geographical, historical, methodological, or topical focus in Catholic Studies, as long as it reflects the academic study of Catholicism in a global context. This will be interpreted broadly to include, for example, scholarship on globalized issues pertaining to social justice in the US, such as race, gender, or identity, as well as numerous other issues elsewhere. In addition to research, the candidate should be an excellent teacher who is prepared to teach undergraduate courses in Catholic Studies and contribute to the Department’s existing undergraduate curriculum in Religious Studies. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop new undergraduate courses that support Loyola’s Jesuit Catholic mission.
The normal teaching load at Loyola University New Orleans is 3-3 each academic year. The Reverend Stephen J. Duffy Chair in Catholic Studies provides sufficient funds to purchase course releases resulting in a 2-1 or 1-2 load per academic year. Additionally, the appointment to The Reverend Stephen J. Duffy Chair in Catholic Studies provides funding for the Chair holder to pursue a vigorous program of scholarship.
