The Katz Yeshiva High School of South Florida (Boca Raton, Florida) is a private Jewish high school that provides a rigorous, dual curriculum in Judaic Studies and General Studies to approximately 500 students. We are looking for dedicated teachers who are passionate about student learning, the ability to impact students through inspiring lessons, staff leadership of student extracurricular activities, continuous professional growth, and collaboration among staff. Our faculty is comprised of and welcomes individuals reflecting a diverse range of backgrounds. We challenge and support our professionals to grow their curricula and to work to become even better educators. Our robust four-year History program has a strong college-preparatory focus and emphasizes critical thought, analytical writing, source analysis in context, the diversity of the human experience, empathy, and global citizenship. Our program’s pedagogical philosophy is built around helping students to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the past and its implications for the present, developing students’ analytical independence, and fostering students’ compassion.
We are currently recruiting for the following position for the 2023-2024 school year:
- Full-time History Teacher - Seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher with a master’s degree or PhD in History or a closely related field. This position entails teaching five (5) History classes across three of the following subject areas: World History, European History, United States History, and senior-level thematic seminar courses. Early-career historians are welcome to apply. Compensation and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach five (5) classes across our World History, European History, United States History, and senior thematic seminar curricula.
- Teach and model critical thinking skills to a diverse range of students and abilities.
- Contribute to student learning, growth, and advancement through outstanding instruction, classroom management, and the effective and thoughtful use of formal and informal evaluation and substantive student feedback.
- Demonstrate academic excellence in subject areas and demonstrate a high standard of professional and methodological excellence in keeping with the best and current practices of the historical discipline.
- Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and professional development.
- Demonstrate a high degree of self-efficacy (agency); hold themselves accountable for learner outcomes while advocating for their students; work efficiently; and believe in their ability, the capability of their students, and themselves to succeed and excel.
- Serve as a role model of personal empathy and global citizenship while demonstrating a strong commitment to addressing inequalities in the practice and teaching of History.
- Collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholder groups within the organization and with external partners to increase student performance and contribute to advancing the teaching and learning craft.
- Recognize the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance, and aspire toward developing and teaching the whole child.
- Integrate learning technologies and platforms into the classroom to support student learning.
Qualifications
- A master’s degree or PhD in History or a closely related field.
- Experience teaching History (or a closely related subject) at the high school or college level. Graduate assistant teaching may be applicable with a strong record of excellence.
- A passion for cultivating the skills and understanding of adolescent students with a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities.
- A commitment to exploring themes of diversity, demography, power, and the environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, warmth, sense of humor, and a desire to work as part of a robust, collegial, and collaborative team that engages progressively with emerging historical theories and frameworks of analysis.
- Familiarity and comfort using educational technologies and learning platforms.
- If hired, must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
